A soldier was killed and four terrorists shot dead in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Shopian district this morning (Tuesday, November 20).
Three soldiers were reported to be injured and it is believed that 3-4 militants have been trapped. The encounter was still on till the last reports came in.
The incident happened just few minutes before Panchayat polls. The village is 60 km away from Srinagar.
Acting on information about the presence of militants in the area, the police at Nadimarg Village, Central Reserve Police force (CRPF) and the army launched a search operation. Soon it turned into encounter when the militants fired on the forces and the soldiers retaliated.
“Four terrorists have been killed in the operation in Nadigam area of Shopian,” Srinagar-based defence spokesman Colonel Rajesh Kalia said. He did not give any further details about the incident. One soldier lost his life in the encounter and weapons and warlike stores have been recovered, tweeted the Army’s Chinar Corps.
An officer said, three soldiers were killed, the gunfight is still on and the operation is under process. For safety and precaution internet services have been banned in Shopian, Kashmir, he said.
Shopian has been on the edge for the past few days following abduction and killings of teenage boys whom militants suspected to be army’s informers.
There have been several encounters between the army and the terrorist in past few days. Two days ago, two terrorists in terror outfit Al-Badr were killed in an encounter Shopian district’s Rebban area.
