Prime minster started his address by paying tribute to the late Sidaganga Mutt Seer Shivakumara Swami, saying that he had dedicated his entire life to social service, working for the social, educational welfare of thousands of people.
PM Modi added that it was a priority for Swami that people get food, shelter, education and spiritual knowledge.
He says that it is a very important institution of our country — an integral part of our democracy which is even older than the republic.
With the Lok Sabha elections in 2019, it would be the first time that the youth of the 21st century will get a chance to vote and be an important part of the democratic process, says PM Modi.
Modi appreciated the commission for conducting massive elections in India and its efforts to strengthen India’s democracy and said that every citizen should be proud of the body.
During the radio programme Modi also spoke about the contributions that Subhash Chandra Bose made for the nation.
Modi said “Netaji will always be remembered as a brave soldier and an abled organiser. His slogans like; ‘Dilli chalo’, ‘Tum mujhe khoon do, main tumhe azadi dunga’, created a special space for himself in every Indian’s heart.”
There was a constant demand for the release of files related to Netaji’s death. We are happy to have fulfilled these demands to make the files public, PM Modi said.
Modi talked about Rabindra Nath Tagore and his paintings and said, “You have known Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore as a poet and an author but I would like to tell everyone that he was a great painter too. He never named his paintings. He wanted the viewer to understand the message of the art from their own perspective. His art was showcased in European countries, Russia and the US.”
PM remembered poet Ravidas too. February 19 is celebrated as Ravi Das Jayanti. Modi talks about the famous poet who gave a message on the caste system. Sant Ravidas proposed that if God was present in every human being, then it was not fair to categorize him on the basis of caste, creed and other sociological demarcations.
Poet Ravidas always spoke about the importance of hard work, said PM.
