The accident, for which a truck driver has been detained, also claimed the life of one of the PM’s wife’s relative – identified as Basantbhai Modi.
While Prime Minister Narendra Modi continued attack at the Congress in the Parliament on Wednesday, the wife he is accused of abandoning, Jashodaben, had been injured in a car accident earlier in the morning in Rajasthan’s Chittorgarh district. The accident, for which a truck driver has been detained, also claimed the life of one of the PM’s wife’s relative – identified as Basantbhai Modi.
Confirming that the accident took place at around 10 am on Wednesday near Katunda area in Chittorgarh district, Shyam Singh, Station House Officer, Parsoli police station, Chittorgarh, said, “Jashodaben along with her relatives were returning to Gujarat after attending a wedding in Baran district of Rajasthan when the accident happened. One person died while the others sustained minor injuries.”
Stating that six people were travelling in the SUV, which was severely damaged in the impact of the accident, Rakesh Rajora, circle officer of Begun said, “Preliminary investigation suggests that the car was behind a truck which was being driven recklessly. Suddenly the truck driver steered the vehicle to the side which resulted in SUV colliding with the back of the truck.”
“There were six people in the car including the driver and as a result of the impact of the accident they sustained injuries. Preliminary investigation suggests that the deceased, Basantbhai Modi is a cousin of Jashodaben,” he added.
According to the police, a truck driver – who was going from Jamshedpur to Ahmadabad with a consignment of iron pipes – has been detained and a case under sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 304A (causing death by negligence) of IPC has been registered.
Constable Rama Ram from Parsoli police station, Chittorgarh said, “The detained truck driver has been identified as Pooran Yadav, a resident of Hazaribag in Jharkhand.”
Asserting that Jashodaben and other injured persons have been taken to the Chittorgarh district headquarters for further treatment, the police said, “As of now, her injuries don’t appear to be serious.”
