It may help popularize Indian handlooms
In a bid to build direct ties with Indian people, the US Charge d’Affairs MaryKay Carlson, finally wore saree of their choice. While attending Independence Day celebrations at Red Fort on Tuesday where Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation, she wore maroon color Kanjeevaram saree.
Not only this but also shared her picture and wrote “#SareeSearch success! Excited to attend #IndependenceDayIndia celebration wearing the voters’ choice – Kanjeevaram. #WeWearCulture.”
Earlier this month, the US senior diplomat who is heading the mission in the absence of an ambassador, had tweeted about her plan to run an online poll to help select sari to wear on August 15. She visited Khadi Bhawan, the most famous showroom of khadi products in Connaught Place and selected five varieties: jamdani, dupion, Kanjeevaram and tussar sarees and posted their videos and pictures on her twitter account.
The US diplomat’s move is likely to help popularize Indian handloom among the foreign tourists.
