India has registered a big win against England in the third test match before end of Day 2 at Narendra Modi Stadium Ahmadabad on Thursday. Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill are on the crease to take a 2-1 lead in the four match series.
Earlier on Day 2, India posted a first innings score of 145 in response to England’s 112, taking a lead of 33 runs. Indian pacer Ishant Sharma, in his 100th Test, with Jasprit Bumrah added 11 crucial runs for India, who collapsed from 98/2 to 145 all out.
For the visitors, Joe Root was in top form, registering five wickets. He took the wickets of Rishabh Pant, Washington Sundar, Patel, Ravichandran Ashwin and Jasprit Bumrah. Meanwhile, Leach dismissed Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane. England’s Leach picked 3 and Archer picked 1.
The visitors put in a poor start, has lost quick wickets of Zak Crawley, Jonny Bairstow, Dom Sibley, Joe Root and Ben Foakes. The entire England team has returned to pavilion scoring just 81 runs.
The duo of Ashwin and Axar thrashed the England’s batting order. Axar Patel was on fire, taking the wickets of Zak Crawley, Jonny Bairstow, Dom Sibley, Joe Root and Ben Foakes while Ravichandran Ashwin dismissed Ben Stokes, Ollie Pope, Jofra Archer and Jack Leach. Also, Washington Sundar took the wicket of James Anderson.
Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin on Thursday achieved a rare feat and became the second-fastest bowler in the world after former Sri Lankan legend Muttiah Muralitharan to claim 400 wickets in Test cricket. Axar also has taken his first-ever 10-wicket match haul.
