In a big blow to Team India, vice-captain Rohit Sharma was on Monday ruled out of the upcoming ODI and Test series against New Zealand after sustaining a calf injury in the fifth T20I on Sunday.
Rohit had to retire hurt after scoring 60 off 41 balls as he pulled his calf muscle while attempting a quick single during the match in Mount Maunganui.
Rohit’s injury is a big blow especially after his marvellous run across formats in 2019.
He continued his top form in 2020, first against Australia at home followed by two brilliant innings in the recently concluded T20I series against New Zealand, which India won 5-0.
“He is out of the tour,” a top BCCI source told news agency PTI.
India are set to play three ODIs, starting Wednesday, and two Tests after that.
