IPL 2021 Final Preview, CSK vs KKR: Dhoni’s Super Kings to face Morgan’s Riders in final

Aiming to win their 4th title, MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings will be playing resurgent Kolkata Knight Riders on Friday evening. CSK have won IPL three times (2010, 2011 & 2018), while KKR have won it twice in 2012 and 2014. Both teams have the experience of playing finals, but this time cSK will be looking for their revenge of 2012 IPL final, in which Kolkata knight Riders led by Gautam Gambhir had beaten Chennai Super Kings to lift their first title. Whereas Kolkata Knight Riders is full of confidence, as they have been the most successful team in the UAE leg of IPL 2021, winning 7 of 9 matches.

Before the match starts, let’s have a look on both teams and their predicted XI.

Chennai Super Kings

This is 9th occasion when CSK have reached in an IPL final, the second (6 times) in the list is five-times champion Mumbai Indians. But, even after making it to the finals, CSK have a bad habit to lose at the biggest stage, losing five times in final.

From Ruturaj Gaikwad to Ravindra Jadeja, everyone has played their part to help the team to reach in final, but the biggest concern CSK have, is the failure of their middle-order batting. Moeen Ali, Robin Uthappa, MS Dhoni needs to play thei best game if they want CSK to win title. The opening pair of Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis have been ruthless throughout the tournament, scoring 613 and 547 runs, respectively.

Predicted XI CSK: Ruturaj Gaikwad, Faf du Plessis, Robin Uthappa, Moeen Ali, Ambati Rayudu, MS Dhoni (c&wk), Ravindra Jadeja, Dwayne Bravo, Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar, Josh Hazlewood

Kolkata Knight Riders

The World Cup winning English captain has been lucky to KKR this season. He has the experience of leading the team into finals, but his failure with the bat is still something KKR need to figure out before the match. This team of KKR is very young and inexperienced compared to other IPL teams. With Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine, their spin attack has played massive role in their road to finals in this season. Failure of Morgan and Dinesh Karthik is worrying sign for KKR. However, with the likes of Venkatesh Iyer, Shubman Gill and Nitish Rana, their batting looks very strong.

Predicted XI KKR: Shubman Gill, Venkatesh Iyer, Nitish Rana, Rahul Tripathi, Eoin Morgan (c), Dinesh Karthik (wk), Shakib Al Hasan/Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Lockie Ferguson, Shivam Mavi, Varun Chakravarthy

Head-to-head records

In their 24 meetings CSK have won 16 times while KKR only 8. Kolkata Knight Riders have won only 1 match in their previous 6 meetings.

Players to watch-out for

Venkatesh Iyer and Robin Uthappa

The match will take place at Dubai International Cricket Stadium at 7:30pm IST. Star Sports network will broadcast the live match.
