In the wee hours of Thursday (March 28), 3 terrorists have been killed in an encounter with security forces, in Shopian district in Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.

The encounter in Kellar area in the south Kashmir district started after a joint team of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Army and the Jammu and Kashmir police was attacked by terrorists during a search operation in the area.

The identities of the terrorists killed in the encounter are yet to be ascertained. Weapons were also recovered from the encounter site.

“Hiding terrorists opened fire at the security forces in Yarwan village of Keller area during a cordon and search operation. Three terrorists were killed in the resulting encounter,” a police officer told news agency IANS.

Another encounter is underway in Yaroo area in Handwara. The area has been cordoned off.

The search operation currently is underway in the area.
