On the birth anniversary of legendary Tamil actor and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu MG Ramachandran(MGR), Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut shared a still from her upcoming film Thalaivi featuring herself as Jayalalitha and Arvind Swami as MGR on Sunday.
Ranaut took to twitter to share the photo, in which both the actors can be seen embracing each other. She captioned it as, Tribute to the legend #MGR on his birth anniversary, revolutionary leader n a mentor to #Thalaivi.
Remembering the iconic leader, Ranaut also shared a video which chronicled some of the major landmark events from MGR’s life journey. She paid tribute to his immense contribution to the state.
The upcoming film Thalaivi is a biopic of Tamil Nadu former chief minister and actor Jayalalithaa. The film revolves around the life of the iconic figure, capturing her journey from her time in the movies to becoming a politician. MGR was a mentor figure to Jayalalithaa, the role which Arvind Swami will be portraying in the film.
Ranaut, who will be seen in titular role has undergone a rigorous physical transformation to fit in the role. The film also marks her debut in the South film industry.
Directed by AL Vijay, the film is produced by Vishnu Vardhan Induri and Shailesh R Singh under their banners Vibri Media, Karma Media And Entertainment in association with Gothic Entertainment and Sprint films respectively.

The film also stars Bhagyashree, Jisshu Sengupta and Prakash Raj in pivotal roles. The film is a multilingual biographical drama which has been simultaneously shot in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
Like other films, Thalaivi was also scheduled to be released in June last year. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the movie could not be released. As for Kangana, the actor has other lined up projects that include Tejas and Dhaakad.
