On this special day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Lata Mangeshkar and conveyed his birthday greetings. He tweeted that he considered himself fortunate to have always received her affection. He prayed for her a long and healthy life.
Born on September 28, 1929, Lata Mangeshkar had to support her family from a young age and started singing when 13. Her first major break in Bollywood was with the song Dil Mera Toda from the 1948 film Majboor. The song Aayega Aanewaala from the 1949 film Mahal gave her much needed limelight. From then, she has been the leading Bollywood singer for a record shattering 73 years. So far she has recorded songs for over 1,000 Hindi films. Apart from it, she has sung in over 36 Indian and foreign languages.
