After Vice-President M. Venkaiah Naidu, who is also the Chairman of the Upper House, ordered to review the new Rajya Sabha marshal uniform on Tuesday, the marshals were seen continue wearing the new uniform but without the controversial cap today.
It was the 250th session of the Rajya Sabha on Monday when the brand new olive green uniforms on marshals drew criticism for resembling that of the armed forces.
A day later, Rajya Sabha chairman M Venkaiah Naidu has ordered a review of the military-style uniform. He informed the House that the Rajya Sabha secretariat would revisit the decision to replace the marshals’ ethnic dress and turban.
The new uniform has shiny brass buttons, carries shoulder insignias and an ornamental braided cord worn by Army personnel. The cap also bears resemblance to military-style peak caps.
Many former officers — including former Army chief, General VP Malik took to social media to express his strong reservations over the new uniform.
