Maharashtra horror: 20-year-old woman gang-raped on board Mumbai-bound Pushpak Express, four held

A 20-year-old woman was raped by some robbers on Saturday night when she was on board in Lucknow-Mumbai Pushpak Express train. The area police said the incident happened late Friday night between Igatpuri and Kasara railway stations in Maharashtra.

Police said, they have arrested the four accused in connection with the incident so far, they are searching for the other accused that are absconding. Mumbai GRP police commissioner, Quaiser Khalid said, those who are involved in the incident committed the crime when the express train was passing from the ghat section in the night.

Sharing the information about the crime, Khalid from his official Twitter handle said, the accused boarded the train at Igatpuri (Aurangabad Railway district) in sleeper bogie D-2, in the night they have committed the crime, he said.

When the Lucknow-Mumbai Pushpak Express train reached Kasara station, passengers from the train screamed for help, officer and other police staff at GRP Mumbai immediately responded, Khalid added.

In the initial investigation, the Deputy Commissioner of Police revealed that they have also recovered the assets worth Rs 96,390 from the accused which they have stolen from the train.

The Mumbai GRP has registered the case against the accused under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 395 (dacoity), 397 (robbery or dacoity), 376(D) (gang rape), 354 (assault or use of criminal force to any woman, intending to outrage her modesty), 354(B) (assault or use of criminal force to any woman or abetment of such act with the intention of disrobing or compelling her to be naked), and also under the Railways Act at Kalyan railway police station on Saturday, Khalid added.

The victim has been taken for medical examination by a lady officer in a nearby hospital in the state.
