The West Bengal government is all set to provide free Covid-19 vaccines to all the people in the state in a bid to curb the coronavirus. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday said her government is making all efforts for making vaccine free for everyone in the state.
Banerjee’s comment on the free vaccine has come ahead of the assembly elections, which are likely to be held in April-May this year.
India will be launching Covid-19 vaccination drive from January 16. The priority will be given to nearly three crore healthcare and frontline workers across the country, who will be receiving the vaccine the first phase. Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin and Serum Institute of India’s Covishield developed by AstraZeneca and Oxford University have been given the emergency use authorisation by DCGI.
According to the reports, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a virtual meeting with all chief ministers on Monday to know and discuss the current situation of Covid-19 in India. PM also will also speak about preparedness of Covid-19 vaccine rollout.
West Bengal has so far registered 5,59,886 coornavirus infections asper the latest data on Saturday. in past 24 hours, 787 people have tested positive for Covid-19. 20 fresh fatalities have also been recorded in the state pushing the West Bengal’s coronavirus death toll to 9,922, according to health bulletin.
Accroding to the reports, 978 people have been cured of the disease, taking the recovery rate of the state to 96.79 per cent. The state now has 8,034 active COVID-19 cases, while 5,41,930 people have recovered from the disease so far.

According to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India has reported a total of 18,645 fresh coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total covid tally to 1,04,50,284. The recoveries have surged to 1,00,75,950. The death toll has reached 1,50,999 with 201 more people succumbing to the disease in a span of 24 hours.
