Chennai Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s gesture of gifting his jerseys to opposition players has started speculation that the former Indian captain might be getting ready to hang his boots after the current season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), which is turning out to be a disaster for his team this year.
CSK suffered a crashing 10-wicket at the hands of Mumbai Indians on Friday following which Dhoni gave out his jersey to Hardik and Krunal Pandya. Earlier, the CSK skipper had handed his jersey to Rajasthan Royals’ Jos Buttler fuelling the retirement speculation.
The Ranchi lad is known for taking the biggest decision of his career in a mysterious manner. Just few days before boarding the flight for UAE for the current season of IPL, Dhoni had announced retirement from international cricket on Instagram. He had called quits from Test cricket in a similar fashion.
Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings continued their dismal run in the tournament on Friday and were beaten by Mumbai Indians by 10 wickets. CSK are currently placed at the bottom of the table and are almost out of the race for playoffs. During the presentation ceremony after the match, Dhoni said that such losses hurt. He said that the luck had not favoured CSK this season. The skipper said that the team will try and salvage its pride in the remaining games.
The CSK skipper added that the remaining games will help franchise in getting a clear picture for the next season. He said the matches will give the boys a chance to showcase their talent based on which CSK can decide whom to retain for the next edition.
One of the most successful captains of the Indian cricket team, Mahendra Singh Dhoni had retired from all forms of international cricket in August.
