Chennai Super Kings on Friday suffered one of their worst-ever defeat in the history of the Indian Premier League against Mumbai Indians. The defending champion Mumbai beat three-time IPL champion CSK by 10 wickets at Sharjah. This was the first time that Chennai lost a game by a margin of 10 wickets in IPL.
After winning the toss, the Super Kings lost their five wickets in the first six overs. Playing without Rohit Sharma, Mumbai Indians pacer attack dismantled CSK’s top and middle-order. Mumbai pacers Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah derailed the top-half of the Chennai innings before the completion of the powerplay. With the help of Sam Curran’s maiden fifty, CSK managed to play 20 overs and finished at 114/9. He came to bat at no.3 on when the score was 21/5.
With no pressure to chase the low total, Mumbai Indians operners Quinton de Kock and Ishan Kishan together ended the game easily in 12.2 overs. Ishan Kishan opened up the innings in the absence of Rohit Sharma scored an unbeaten 68 off 37.
Speaking at the post match ceremony, CSK skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni admitted that the team failed to perform to its potential from the second game onwards as the team suffered an embarrassing 10-wicket defeat from Mumbai.
CSK skipper MS Dhoni had recently announced his retirement from international cricket, so there were a lot of eyes on CSK in IPL 2020. CSK fans were expecting too much with their franchise in the beginning of the IPL 2020 but the things have gone from bad to worse for the Chennai-based franchise.
Practically, CSK are out of IPL 2020 but the permutations and combinations still give them a chance. With just six points from 11 matches, CSK remained on the bottom in IPL 2020 points table. With this win, Mumbai Indians regained the top spot in the points table with 14 points from 10 games.
