Along with the country-wide Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 71st birthday celebration on Friday, the Ministry of Culture is organising an e-auction of gifts and mementos received by PM in the past two years.
The auction will showcase around 1,300 items including the javelin of Olympic gold medalist Neeraj Chopra. The base price of Chopra’s javelin, which he had presented to PM Modi recently, is expected to be around Rs 75 lakh.
The auction will also showcase the T-shirt worn by Avani Lakhera at a base price of Rs 15 lakh, while the javelin thrown by Sumit Antil and Chopra will have a base price of Rs 1 crore each.
The boxing gloves of Lovlina Borgohain have a base price of Rs 80 lakh while a stole with signatures of Tokyo Olympic players carries a base price of Rs 90 lakh.
Gold medalist PV Sindhu’s badminton bag and racket, which she gifted to PM Modi will have a base price of Rs 80,000. Sindhu secured back-to-back medals at the Olympics 2020 and 2016.
The memorabilia include sports gear and equipment of the other medal-winning Olympians and Paralympians, a replica of the Ayodhya Ram Mandir presented to the PM by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, a wooden replica of the Chardham presented by Uttarakhand Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj, Rudraksha Convention Centre of Varanasi, sculptures, paintings, angavastras among others.
The e-auction will go towards the Namami Gange Mission, aimed at conserving and rejuvenating the river Ganga.
There are also other models of important buildings, sculptures, paintings, and souvenirs that PM Modi received from visiting dignitaries and during important functions over the last two years.
At the last auction in September 2019, as many as 2,770 objects went under the hammer including paintings, sculptures, shawls, jackets, and traditional musical instruments.
