Major Vaibhav Vishal, an Army Major, posted at Army’s 54th Infantry Division in Secunderabad, had been admitted to the ICU of an army hospital after his wife Sandhya Singh was found dead.
The husband of a radio jockey, Sandhya Singh, who was found hanging in her home in Hyderabad two weeks ago, has been arrested on Wednesday in connection with the death.
The husband, Indian Army Major Vaibhav Vishal, had been admitted to the ICU of an army hospital after his wife was found dead at their quarters. Reports said Major Vishal had found his wife hanging from a ceiling fan and claimed chest pain on the same night, and was transferred to a hospital. As he was residing on army premises, the police could not arrest him. Police were told that he was sleeping when his wife hanged herself.
He was arrested on Wednesday based on a complaint by his wife’s family that she was harassed for dowry. Initially, a case of suicide was registered but later his name was added when Sandhya Singh’s sister Uma alleged that she was harassed by her husband for dowry.
Major Vishal was handed over by the army to the local police and has been sent for 14-day custody. Reports said police have found evidence of dowry harassment and are now looking for the Major’s mother Asha Singh and sister Khushi.
Sandhya and Major Vishal, both from Uttar Pradesh, fell in love and married two years ago. They moved to Hyderabad in November 2016.
Sandhya Singh worked for Radio Charminar and left no suicide note. Her colleagues have told Police that she had been depressed in the days before her death.
