Two-time Olympic medalist wrestler Sushil Kumar’s name has come under scanner in connection with the murder of a 23-year-old former junior national champion inside the Chhatrasal stadium premises in North-West Delhi late Tuesday night. Reports said he was beaten to death in a clash involving two groups including Kumar. The Delhi police have launched raids to locate the wrestler, police said on Wednesday.
According to police, a 23-year-old wrestler died and his two friends got injured after they were allegedly brutally assaulted by other wrestlers inside the stadium. Sushil Kumar was named in the FIR, the police said.
Police said an information regarding firing inside the Chhatrasal Stadium was received at Model Town police station. Police reached the spot and found five cars parked in the parking area of the stadium.
Additional DCP (north-west), Guriqbal Singh Sidhu said the crime scene as well as all the five vehicles were inspected, during which one double barrel loaded gun with five live cartridges were found in one Scorpio and two wooden sticks were also recovered from the spot.
The FIR states that Sushil Kumar and his aides were involved in the incident that lasted four hours leaving one dead and two injured.
The deceased was identified as Sagar Kumar, son of a Delhi Police Head Constable, and the injured have been identified as Sonu Mahal (35) and Amit Kumar (27).
