A senior doctor of Nalanda Medical College and Hospital in Bihar’s capital Patna has demanded to be freed from his post citing lack of oxygen supply in the Covid care hospital. In his letter written to the Bihar Health Secretary, the doctor also claimed that the oxygen is not being supplied to all hospitals in Bihar amid the new surge of coronavirus.
The shortage of oxygen cylinders are taking place across the country amidst increasing cases of coronavirus.
What did the doctor wrote in the letter?
In his letter to the Bihar Health Secretary, Dr Vinod Kumar Singh has pointed that the hospital is not being provided with adequate oxygen cylinders despite several reminders. The official warned, the shortage of oxygen cylinders could lead to deaths of patients admitted at the hospital as a result of which the blame will be pinned on the hospital administration. Singh said that he would not want to be held responsible as he has made the best efforts to provide better care to the patients admitted at the hospital.
What Tejashwi has tweeted?
Following which, the Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Assembly and the RJD chief Tejashwi Yadav targeted Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for lack of Covid care infrastructure in the state. Yadav shared a copy of a letter written by Dr. Vinod Kumar Singh on his official Twitter handle.
Yadav tweeted that this is the pseudo development of Nitish Kumar. The Superintendent of NMCH Hospital, Patna has requested to be relieved of his work charge due to lack of oxygen. He said that the questionimg to the Chief Minister of 16 years is not allowed. He asked what they did for 16 years?.
What has the Bihar government announced?
The development comes days after the Bihar government announced that Nalanda Medical College and Hospital Patna and Gaya’s Anugrah Narayan Hospital into a full-time Covid facility as part of its bid to improve the state’s Covid care facilities in the state.
Bihar’s Health Minister Mangal Pandey on Thursday had announced that the state government had decided to convert NMCH Patna and Gaya”s Anugrah Narayan Hospital into a full-time Covid facility. He also announced that at least 50 beds will also be installed at IGIMS Hospital in Patna and about 100 beds will be arranged at Cancer Institute in the next 2-3 days.
What is the Covid situation in Bihar?
Bihar is witnessing a substantial increase in the number of coronavirus daily cases, majority of them in state capital Patna. Total 7,870 new cases surfaced across the state on Friday, pushing the tally of coronavirus patients to 3,15,427. Out of the new infections, 1898 belonged to Patna alone.
