Two senior ministers of the Narendra Modi government stepped in to react to former Congress president Rahul Gandhi’s tweet mocking Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the PM’s claim that wind turbines could generate 3 things from plain air.
On Wednesday, the PM had spoken to Vestas CEO Henrik Andersen and tweeted that he’d had an insightful interaction with him. A short clip of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s discussion with the CEO of Vestas, the largest wind turbine maker in the world, has gone viral. In this clip one can hear the PM suggesting to Andersen that wind turbines can be used to generate clean drinking water, oxygen, and energy. Andersen gamely welcomed the PM to implement his ideas. But social media is not as elegant or forgiving of prime ministers like business leaders. The clip got viral treatment with political party social media handles and anti-BJP supporters questioning the PM on his questionable claim on wind turbines and how it could generate things.
In this context, Rahul Gandhi posted the video on his twitter saying no one around the PM had the guts to tell him he doesn’t understand.
But that was enough for Railway Minister Piyush Goyal and Minister for Women and Child Development and Textiles Smriti Irani to jump into their boss’ defence. Goyal said nobody in the Congress had the guts to inform Rahul Gandhi that he’s wrong when leading CEOs listen to the PM. The minister also posted a link from an international website that said turbines can produce water from air.
Similarly, Irani, who defeated Gandhi from Amethi in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, said the grand old party is not able to tell its Yuvraj that his ignorance was not helping the party. Some people have been adamant to stay ignorant, she said. In the ministers vs Rahul Gandhi knockout, Sambit Patra also joined in referring to some complex papers he was going to send to Rahul and that the Congress leader wouldn’t be able to understand.
