Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday laid the foundation stone for All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Gujarat’s Rajkot via video conferencing. The hospital will be built on 201 acres of land at an estimated cost of one thousand one hundred 95 crore rupees. The project is likely to be completed by mid-2022.
During the occasion, the prime minister said no. of coronavirus cases in the country were decreasing but people should not let their guard down. He said our mantra for the next year should be ‘Davai Bhi, Kadai Bhi’. The prime minister added that the preparations for the administration of Covid-19 vaccine were in last stages. He said people will be getting the vaccine manufactured in India.
The prime minister’s statements came a day after a government appointed panel considered emergency use authorisation requests by three vaccine makers – Serum Institute of India, Bharat Biotech and Pfizer. SII and Bharat biotech presented more data before the panel on Wednesday on efficacy and safety of their vaccines, while Pfizer sought more time for presenting fresh data. The panel will meet again on Friday after analysis of data and take a call on emergency use approval of the three vaccines.
On the last day of the year, the PM also saluted frontline corona warriors and healthcare workers. He also saluted those who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty during the pandemic.
Talking about betterment of healthcare facilities in the country, the prime minister said the work has been begun on ten new AIIMS in the past six years. He added 20 super speciality hospitals are also being built in the country. During the event, the PM also spoke about the benefits of Ayushman Bharat Yojana and said it has helped poor to a great extent in getting good treatment.
