PM Modi Tamil Nadu visit: 60 people detained for protesting against trip

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has scheduled to visit Tamil Nadu on Tuesday, ahead to Modi’s visit, around 60 including 10 women in Coimbatore were detained for protesting against the PM. Protestors used black flags and placards that read Modi go back.

Reports said the detained group was protesting against Modi’s government for not voting against the Sri Lankan government during the United Nations discussion on war crimes in the neighboring nation.

Protestors said, during the UN’s discussion on war crimes, 22 countries, including Britain and Germany, extended their support to Tamils and blamed Sri Lanka for the war crimes. But the Modi’s government did not vote in favor of Tamils and walked out, protestor said this was blatant support to Sri Lanka. This is a huge betrayal of the Sri Lankan Tamil people, protestors said.

Protestors said, many Hindu temples were vandalized and Hindus were killed in Sri Lanka during the civil war. A protestor said this is an act of the BJP government against the interest of Tamils. We demand that Modi goes back and does not come to Tamil Nadu for the betrayal he has done against the people, protestors said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has just returned from a two-day trip to Bangladesh, will address election rallies in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry on March 30. The prime minister will start his day with a rally in Palakkad at 11 am. He will then move to Dharapuram in Tamil Nadu at 12:50 pm for another rally before concluding the campaign for the day in Puducherry at 4:35 pm.
