Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Sunday reached Varanasi to address the Kisan Nyay (justice for farmers) rally. Hitting out at the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in the rally, she alleged that the government is shielding the Union Minister Ajay Mishra and his son Ashish Mishra, an accused of mowing down the farmers at Lakhimpur Kheri on October 3.
Addressing the Kisan Nyay rally, She said that the victims’ families have no hope for justice in UP. In no country have she heard of a person, who have killed people, being invited by the police to talk to them, she said.
After reaching Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi district to address the Kisan Nyay rally, Gandhi has offered prayers at the Kashi Vishwanath Temple. She was accompanied by Chhattisgarh Chief Minister and party observer for upcoming UP polls Bhupesh Baghel and party MP Deepender Singh Hooda.
Earlier on Saturday, Priyanka Gandhi had tweeted that the aggrieved farmer families have only one demand that is justice to them. She had also said that it would be impossible to get justice without the dismissal of the minister and arrest of the accused of murder.
Union Minister Ajay Mishra Teni’s son Ashish Mishra, accused of crushing farmers under his vehicle at Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh on October 3, has been sent to 14-day judicial custody.
Ashish was arrested late Saturday night after 12 hours of questioning as the police said that he was not cooperating with them. Having skipped the first summons issued to him, Ashish, appeared before the SIT investigating the Lakhimpur Kheri incident.
However, the farmer’s leaders are still demanding Union Minister’s arrest under the charges of spreading disharmony, and murder and conspiracy, and his resignation from the Union Council of Ministers and also warning protests across the country if the demands were not met.
