AAP to contest alone in Punjab Assembly polls, says party spokesperson Raghav Chadha

The Punjab co-in charge of the party said the AAP will contest all the 117 constituencies on its own in the state.

The Aam Aadmi Party’s national spokesperson Raghav Chadha on Monday said the party will not forge an electoral alliance with any political party for the Punjab Assembly polls in 2022. The Punjab co-in charge of the party said the AAP will contest all the 117 constituencies on its own in the state.

The Aam Aadmi Party will not have an electoral tie-up with any political party in Punjab for 2022 polls and the party will fight all 117 seats alone in the polls, said Chadha on being asked whether the AAP will enter into an alliance with any political party for the upcoming polls. Delhi’s Rajinder Nagar MLA also said all the good people from different political parties, who think about Punjab’s welfare and progress are welcome to join the AAP.

On this occasion, AAP’s Punjab unit chief and Sangrur MP Bhagwant Mann said the party had been supporting the farmers and opposing the Centre’s three contentious farm laws and asserted that till the Central government meet the demand of farmers and repeals these anti-farm legislations, Parliament will not be allowed to function.

He dubbed the BJP-led government as arrogant and added that Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2021, was going to rob the states of their rights and deprive them of giving power subsidies to farmers along with other sections. AAP is also vehemently opposing it, he said.

Meanwhile, a senior Congress leader from Muktsar Gurmit Singh Khudian on Monday joined the AAP in the presence of Chadha and AAP’s Punjab unit chief Bhagwant Mann.

Punjab assembly polls are due early next year. The Aam Aadmi Party had contested Assembly polls in Punjab in 2017 and managed to win 20 seats. The party is expecting to gain more ground in the state.

To win over the state, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had promised 24 hours of electricity, 300 units free and a waiver on previous power bills to garner votes in Punjab. He had said if AAP comes to power in Punjab, the electricity bill waiver promise will be met immediately.
