Minister of State for Railways and Karnataka BJP MP Suresh Angadi passed away on Wednesday, days after he tested positive for Covid-19.
The 65-year-old passed away at around 8 pm at the AIIMS trauma center which has been converted into a dedicated Covid-19 facility.
Angadi announced the news of being positive from C- 19 through his twitter handle where wrote that he had been contracted with the coronavirus and those who came in close contact with him over the last few days to monitor their health and get tested in case of any symptoms.
A fourth-term MP from Belagavi, Angadi is the first Union minister who died from coronavirus. Earlier, At least six MLAs and three MPs have succumbed because of this deadly virus. Former President Pranab Mukherjee, who died on August 31, was also diagnosed as Covid-19 positive.
Meanwhile, Several big political leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressed their grief and condolences after Angadi’s death.
After posting the picture with Suresh Angadi, PM wrote that Shri Suresh Angadi was an exceptional Karyakarta (worker), who worked hard to make the Party strong in Karnataka. He was a dedicated MP and effective Minister, admired across the spectrum. His demise is saddening. Minister of Railways Piyush Goyal also shared a photo with the Angadi on Twitter where he said he felt shocked after hearing the news of Angadi’s death, he further added in his tweet that Angadi was like my brother. Words fall short to describe his commitment & dedication towards the people. Home Minister Amit Shah also expressed his grief and condolences after Angad’s death.
Ministry of Home Affairs announced after the death of Angadi that the national flag will be flown at half-mast on Thursday in all government offices in Delhi due to Angadi’s death.
Angadi was a four-time MP from Belagavi, consecutively since 2004. The 65-year-old, survived by his wife and two daughters, was associated with the RSS from a young age.
