Raj Thackeray spotted without a mask at Mumbai event, says he does not wear mask at all

Despite strict rules imposed in Maharashtra over rising coronavirus cases, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray spotted without wearing a mask at an event in Mumbai’s Shivaji Park. The event was organised on the occasion of Marathi Bhasaha Diwas.

Thackeray was accompanied by his wife Sharmila Thackeray and his son Amit Thackeray but unlike Thackeray, they were wearing a mask. Replying to reporters who was also present there to cover the event Raj Thackeray said, he don’t wear a mask at all.

The event was held despite being denied permission by the police, several Maharashtrian celebrities attended the event.

Assuring the people of the state, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said that it will take action by keeping an eye on the crowd, but no one has been fined yet.

On the occasion of Marathi Language Day, the MNS launched a campaign to hold a Marathi signature programme at Shivaji Park. Speaking at the event, Raj Thackeray expressed his displeasure over the denial of permission for Shiv Jayanti and Marathi Day programs. Thackeray questioned the government over the West Bengal Assembly election 2021 being held amid rising coronavirus cases and asked that why the Modi government is not postponing elections if coronavirus is growing so much in the contry.

Maharashtra has been witnessing a spike in Covid-19 cases and reported 8,333 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours including 1,034 fresh cases in Mumbai on Friday. Mumbai has been recording over 1,000 daily coronavirus cases for the past three days. On February 24, Mumbai registered more than 1,000 fresh Covid-19 cases after a gap of 119 days.

The authority however is claiming that rise in Covid-19 active cases are due to people’s laxity towards precautions and partly due to the resumption of local train services.
