Union Minister Ramdas Athawale has tested positive for coronavirus on Tuesday. On the advice of the doctors, Athawle admitted to the hospital in south Mumbai as a precautionary measure. Athwale complained of cough and body pain following which, he reportedly tested for croronavirus hours after he inducted actor Payal Ghosh in his party. His report came positive on Tuesday.
The president of Republican Party of India Ramdas Athawle on Monday had attended a press conference in Mumbai where he had inducted actor Payal Ghosh in his party. Athawale wore a mask without covering his nose. Both Athawale and Ghosh were photographed standing with their party workers without wearing face masks. Ramdas Athawale, 60, a diabetic patient, is a member of the Rajya Sabha and the minister of state for social justice.
Several union ministers including top BJP leaders Amit Shah and Nitin Gadkari have tested positive for coronovirus over the last few months. While dozens of Maharashtra ministers include Jitendra Awhad (housing), Ashok Chavan (public works department), Varsha Gaikwad (school education), Eknath Shinde (urban development), Nitin Raut (energy) and Dhananjay Munde (social justice) had also tested positive for Covid-19.
On Monday, the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra Ajit Pawar had tested positive for coronavirus while on Saturday former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has tested positive for Covid-19. On the advice of the doctors, both leaders have admitted to the hospital as precautionary measures.
Ministers Hasan Mushrif (rural development), Sunil Kedar (animal husbandry), Balasaheb Patil (cooperation), Aslam Shaikh (ports, and textile), Bacchu Kadu (school education), Abdul Sattar (rural development), and Sanjay Bansode (environment) had contracted by coronavirus in the state.
In March, a video of Ramdas Athawale with Chinese Consul General Tang Guocai and Buddhist monks chanting ‘go corona go’ went viral on social media. The video was shot at Gateway of India in Mumbai on March 10 during a prayer ceremony to stop the spread of the coronavirus.
