Actor Ranveer Singh, who will be essaying the role of former India captain Kapil Dev in upcoming film ’83 took to Instagram to wish him on his birthday. Singh posted a video of Dev in which he is giving an inspirational talk on following one’s dreams and not buckling under pressure. Along with his wish, Singh termed Dev as colossus of a captain and gem of a person! He also thanked the legendary cricketer for embracing them and allowing them to tell his extraordinary story.
’83 is one of the highly anticipated films of the year 2021. The film is based on 1983 world cup, which India won under Kapil Dev’s leadership. In the sports drama, Ranveer Singh will be seen stepping into the shoes of former India captain Dev while his wife Deepika Padukone will play the role of Kapil Dev’s wife Romi Bhatia. The film was set to hit the theatres in April 2020. However, its release date was pushed owing to coronavirus pandemic to Christmas. The film was further pushed to 2021. The film’s release date is yet to be announced.
Earlier in an interview with Hindustan Times, Singh had showered praises on the legendary cricketer. He said Dev and his family were warm and kind people and he will never forget the help they offered in helping him get into Kapil Dev’s big shoes for the role.
The actor said he was nervous about the role when he signed the film as essaying a living legend comes with its own set of challenges and responsibilities. He added that now he was feeling confident since he had studied the character and put efforts to step into it. singh had spent 10 days at Dev’s residence to understand his personality better. He also received the training from Dev himself at a boot camp in Dharamsala.
