It’s official! Ranveer Singh to lead in Hindi remake of Shankar’s Anniyan

The official adaptation of the cult blockbuster Anniyan will be mounted on a large scale and will go on floors in mid-2020.

Actor Ranveer Singh and filmmaker Shankar Shanmugham have come together for a Hindi remake of the Tamil film Anniyan. The actor has shared a picture with the director Shankar and producer Jayantilal Gada in the announcement on social media.

Alongside the photo, Ranveer wrote, Proudly announcing my collaboration with the pioneering visionary of Indian cinema, the maverick master craftsman SHANKAR @shanmughamshankar powered by veteran film producer Dr. Jayantilal Gada @jayantilalgadaofficial @penmovies.

On the other hand,  Shankar wrote, In this moment, no one will be happier than me, bringing back the larger than life cinematic experience with @RanveerOfficial in the official adaptation of cult blockbuster Anniyan. 

The official adaptation of the cult blockbuster Anniyan will be mounted on a large scale and will go on floors in mid-2020.

Ranveer said he feels blessed to have this opportunity to be a part of the spectacular cinematic vision of Shankar sir. Praising the filmmaker, he called Shankar, an exception to the norm, a genius, visionary, and a true disruptor who has shown us that no vision is large enough to achieve on screen.

Talking about Anniyan, the actor said that working as a lead in a film like Anniyan is a dream come true for any artist. I can only hope that my interpretation and rendition of the part also connect with audiences in the same way as it did with Vikram sir. It’s undoubtedly a once-in-a-lifetime performance piece, and I am ready to give this role every single ounce of my being, he added.

While according to Shankar, to make the Hindi remake of Anniyan needed a maverick, charismatic showman like no other to play the part. I found this in the mercurial Ranveer Singh because he is a one-in-a-generation actor who has shown us that he can immortalise a character through his stellar performance, the filmmaker said.

Meanwhile, the 2005 film Anniyan is a psychological action thriller film that revolves around a man who gets frustrated at seeing an increasing social apathy and public negligence. This leads to a split personality as he attempts to right the system. The South actor Vikram has played the lead role in the film. The film was a blockbuster at the box office at that time. Moreover, it bagged a National Award in the Special Effects category.
