Ratan Tata writes heartfelt note for soldiers, Mumbaikars on 26/11 anniversary

On the 12th anniversary of the devastating 26/11 attack, Industrialist Ratan Tata, paid tribute to brave soldiers who helped conquer the enemy in the Mumbai terror attack. He hailed Mumbai people for coming together as one to vanquish terrorism and destruction that day.

The Hotel Taj Palace in Mumbai, the prime targets of terrorists is owned by the Tata group. Remembering the day, Ratan Tata shared an illustration of the hotel on Instagram and said the wanton destruction will never be forgotten.

In his note, he lauded the spirit of Mumbai people as how they set aside their differences and came together during the havoc that wrecked the city twelve years ago. He paid tribute to the martyrs and mourned the lives lost in the attack.

The unity and the kindness from the unfortunate day should be cherished. The sensitivity shown that day will continue to shine in the years ahead, said the 82-year-old businessman.

On November 26, 2008, Mumbai saw a ghastly attack by Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists. They carried out multiple terror attacks at five major locations including Hotel Taj Palace, the Nariman House,  the Oberoi Hotel, the Leopold Cafe, and the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus train station.The attack lasted for four days and left 166 people killed and 300 people injured.

Nine out of ten terrorists were killed and the only survivor, Ajmal Kasab, was arrested. Kasab was executed on November 11, 2012.

Several leaders including Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray, governor Bhagat Singh Koshiyari, state home minister Anil Deshmukh among others paid floral tributes to the martyrs at the newly built memorial in south Mumbai.

Many countries across the world also poured in their tribute to India. The United States said that they stand with India in the battle against terrorism, also affirmed its commitment to held perpetrators of the 26/11 attack accountable.
