Rohit Sharma named ICC ODI Cricketer of the Year, Virat Kohli wins Spirit of Cricket award

Indian opener Rohit Sharma denied Virat Kohli a hat-trick to be named the 2019 ODI Cricketer of the Year at ICC awards.

The right-handed batsman became the third Indian to win the prestigious award after former skipper MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli.

Rohit Sharma scored five centuries during the ICC Cricket World Cup. He finished the year as the highest run-scorer in ODIs, scoring a staggering 1,490 runs in ODIs that included seven hundreds in total.

India captain Virat Kohli won the 2019 Spirit of Cricket Award for his gesture to the crowd asking them to cheer for Steve Smith during a league stage fixture against Australia .

England all-rounder Ben Stokes was awarded the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy given to the world player of the Year for his all-round exploits in 2019 which helped England win the World Cup for the first time and level the Ashes series 2-2.

With 59 Test wickets last year, World no. 1 bowler Pat Cummins of Australia was named the ICC Test Cricketer of the year.

A prolific run in Test cricket propelled Australian batsman Marnus Labuschagne to win the 2019 ICC Men’s Emerging Cricketer award.

Deepak Chahar’s 6/7 against Bangladesh in November are the best figures in the history of men’s T20I cricket and the spell earned the T20I Performance of the Year.

English umpire Richard Illingworth was awarded the 2019 Umpire of the Year while Kyle Coetzer of Scotland was named the Associate Cricketer of the Year.

Along with individual awards, ICC also named the ODI and Test team of the year.
