NCP chief Sharad Pawar on Saturday urged former India cricketer Sachin Tendulkar to exercise caution while speaking about any other field. Pawar’s advice comes in the wake of a tweet by Tendulkar urging the country to stay united following popstar Rihanna’s tweet asking why no one was talking about farmers’ protest. Pawar said many people have reacted sharply to the stand by cricketers and he would urge Tendulkar to exercise caution while speaking about any other field.
For the uninitiated, popstar Rihanna had tweeted earlier this week why nobody was talking about farmers’ protest along with a news report from CNN. Following this, several celebrities and cricketers including Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane among others had urged the country to stay united.
Tendulkar had posted on Twitter that India’s sovereignty cannot be compromised. He said external forces can be spectators but not participants. He added Indians know India and should decide for India. He urged the people to stay united as nation.
Pawar also slammed the Centre for terming farmers terrorists and Khalistanis. He said these are people who feed are country and it was wrong to use such terms for them. Pawar’s advice met with a sharp attack from BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi who said this advice should have been made available to the likes of Rihanna, Greta Thunberg and Mia Khalifa. She also accused Sharad Pawar of taking U-turn and said he used to write letters demanding agricultural reforms in the country.
The party had earlier brought to light an old letter written by him during his tenure as agriculture minister. In the letter, he had sought private participation in the agriculture sector. The saffron party had accused the NCP leader of double standards.
