Congress President Sonia Gandhi has targeted the Modi government over its handling of Corona crisis and the resultant economic downturn . Sonia Gandhi was making opening remarks in the video conference of 22 like minded political parties. Sonia said that Prime Ministers’s grand Rs 20 lakh crore economic package to revive the economy has turned out to be cruel joke on country. Govt has embarked on wild adventure of so-called reforms including grand clearance sale of PSUs and repeal of labour laws.
Sonia held that the government is clueless about how to handle the pandemic. She said that the Government is uncertain about criteria for lockdowns, nor does it have exit strategy. Successive lockdowns have yielded diminishing returns. She said that the government has stumbled badly on the testing strategy and the import of test kits. It has no empathy or compassion for the poor and vulnerable is heartbreaking, Sonia said.
Sonia accused the Modi government of concentrating power at the Centre. She said that government is not consultating with stakeholders or planning any debate in Parliament; we deplore these unilateral moves of govt. She said that the spirit of federalism all but forgotten; no indication either if Parliament or standing committees will be summoned to meet.
