As corona infections continue unabated in the country with Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, Gujarat ad Uttar Pradesh the most affected states, a steep rise in cases are now being witnessed in souther states like Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Kerala is the only South Indian state where the number of Covid-19 patients is considerably low. Together, all five south Indian states account for over 2 lakh, that is nearly 27 percent of country’s total coronavirus cases.
With 118,594 coronavirus cases, Tamil Nadu is the state with second-highest coronavirus cases in the country and has witnessed 1,636 coronavirus fatalities. The number of patients who have recovered from coronavirus in the state stands at 71,116.
In Telangana, Covid-19 tally stands at 27,612 coronavirus cases. While 16,287 people have recovered from the disease, the Covid-19 death toll has jumped to 313 in the state. With 1,831 new cases on Tuesday, Telangana is among the states growing at the fastest rate in the country. Governor Soundararajan met Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar and Principal Secretary (Health) Shanti Kumari on Tuesday to take stock of the Covid situation in the state. The meeting at Raj Bhavan was held in the wake of allegations that some private hospitals in Telangana were overcharging patients for Covid treatment.
The South India state of Karnataka has witnessed 26,815 coronavirus cases till date. Nearly 11,098 patients have recovered from the disease in Karnataka.
Andhra Pradesh has reported 21,197 Covid-19 patients till date. While 9,745 people have recovered from the virus across the state, the death toll stands at 252.
