While the Samajwadi Party (SP) was in shock, Mayawati of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) was in complete denial. Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has kept his cool with a composed reaction.
Here are some special reactions:
Akhilesh Yadav (Tweet):
“Thanks to all those who were with me through the journey—from beginning till this last stage… counting in lakhs.”
Gaurav Bhatia, former SP leader:
“Samajwadi Party’s alliance with Congress was a big mistake…”
And here is what Mayawati said in a press conference:
“Shocking results in UP and Uttarakhand. According to reports the maximum votes have gone to BJP. Voting machines have been tampered with. Muslims voting for BJP is very strange and not plausible. The same happened in 2014. Press any button, the vote would go to BJP, this was the refrain in UP during elections. A reporter had also indicated this point to me during a presser in the last phase of UP elections.
“I challenge PM Modi and Amit Shah to prove that the voting was fair. If they are honest let a re-poll happen with the old ballot paper voting system. This is not good for the democracy.”
