Punjab Kings moved to fifth place on points table after their win over Sunrisers Hyderabad on Saturday at Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
Batting first Punjab had slow start, losing both their openers KL Rahul (21) and Mayank Agarwal (5) in powerplay. The power packedmiddle order of Chris gayle, Aiden Markram and Nicholas Pooran failed to do much by a disciplined bowling from SRH.PBKS ended their innings on 125-7 at the end of 20 overs. Jason Holder of SRH took 3 wickets by giving only 19 runs in 4 overs.
Chasing the target SRH had a horrible start, as they lost both their star players David Warner (1) and Kane Williamson (1) in quick succession. The middle order also failed to perform for SRH. Only Wriddhiman Saha (31) and Holder (47) tried to put up a late fight , but it was not enough for SRH to win the match. PBKS won the match by 5 runs. SRH are knocked out of the play-offs race after this loss.
The form of SRH batsmen is still a major concern for Hyderabad. Their star batters David Warner, Kane Williamson and Manish Pandey are yet to play any major innings in the tournament.
With T. Natarajan and Vijay Shankar isolating due to COVID protocols, SRH is in a mess and out of the play-offs race.
While, Punjab got a win but their unpredictability might cost them crucial matches. The batting line-up is also a major concern for the team, if they want to qualify for play-offs, the main strength of this team is their bowling unit of Shami, Arshdeep, Ravi Bishnoi and Harpreet Brar.
