A day after the resignation of Capt. Amarinder Singh as the Chief Minister of Punjab, Congress MLA Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa is likely to be the new Chief Minister of Punjab.
Sukhjinder Randhawa is a Congress MLA from Dera Baba Nanak constituency. After long discussion with Punjab MLAs, AICC has proposed the name of Sukhjinder Singh for Chief Minister of Punjab. Randhawa was a member of Cabinet under the Amarinder Singh’s government. He was heading the ministries of Jail and Corporation.
However, Randhawa didn’t confirm, whether he is going to be the next CM or not, but he said that, it will be decided very soon. A congress MLA from Punjab, Pritam Kotbhai said to media in Chandigarh that, all Legislators of the Congress party have backed Randhawa as Chief Minister.
According to ANI, a meeting is being held at the residence of former Congress President Rahul Gandhi, after All India Congress Committee (AICC) proposed the name of three time Congress MLA Sukhjinder Singh as the post of Chief Minister of Punjab.
In recent times, Randhawa joined hands with cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu to remove Amarinder Singh from the Cm of Punjab. When asked about the reason of revolt against Amarinder Singh, Randhawa said that, Capt didn’t fulfil the promises he made before Punjab assembly elections in 2017. Randhawa further added that, “Captain has been CM for 9.5 years and is like a father figure to me, he is our family head, the sincerity we have to Captain, has not shown to anyone, but we saw our promises were unfulfilled so we reacted,”.
Reports also say that along with CM, two deputy CM will be announced, with Navjot Singh Sidhu being one of them.
Yesterday, Capt Amarinder Singh resigned from the post and said he felt humiliated that he cannot run government like this, they better choose the person as Chief Minister they trust.
