Former Indian cricketer and commentator Sunil Gavaskar, who often makes the headlines due to his statements against Kohli, said he would not comment on Rahane’s captaincy or people would accuse him of favouring Mumbai boys. Rahane, who is acting as stand-in captain in absence of Virat Kohli, is being hailed for his captaincy after India bundled our Australia for 195 runs in the first innings of the Boxing Day Test being played in Melbourne.
Gavaskar had recently triggered a massive row when he said there are diffrent rules for different players in the Indian team. In his column in Sportsstar, Gavaskar targeted Virat Kohli for his paternity leave. Gavaskar cited the example of Natarajan who had become father for the first time during playoffs of Indian Premier League and asked to fly to Australia directly from the UAE. He said Natarajan has been asked to stay back for the Test series, not even as part of the squad but net bowler. Natarajan would be returning to india only after completion of the series in third week of January and see his daughter for the first time.
Drawing comparison of Natarajan’s situation to Kohli’s paternity leave, he said there is the captain who has returned to India right after the first test. He said there are different rules for different people. His statement had not gone down well with his fans who said Gavaskar’s remarks showed he had sheer hatred Kohli.
Meanwhile, Rahane has managed to impress former Indian players like Virendra Sehwag and VVS Laxman who took to social media to praise the bowling changes and field placements made by him.
After a massive defeat in the first Test at Melbourne, India had a fantastic first day in the second test. after bundling out the Aussies for 195 runs, India have scored 36/1 at stumps.
