A BJP ward member candidate from Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore has created history after managing to get 1 vote in Tamil Nadu local body polls, though there are five members in his family.
The candidate, D.Karthik, had contested for the post of a ward member from Coimbatore district in Tamil Nadu local body polls. However, Karthik managed to get only one vote even his family members didn’t vote for someone else.
Hours after the news broke out in media and went viral with hashtags Single_Vote_BJP (ஒத்தஓட்டுபாஜக) and now trending on Twitter. Tweeple are sharing posts and memes.
Writer and activist Meena Kandasamy tweeted that the BJP candidate gets only one vote in local body elections. Proud of the four other voters in his household who decided to vote for others, he wrote in her tweet.
Ashok Kumar of INC wrote that this is how Tamil Nadu handles BJP. “Out Of Five members Of his Family, The BJP Candidate Could Secure Only Single Vote, a user tweeted.
Another Twitter user pointed out that the posters released by Karthik for his election propaganda had the portraits of prime minister Narendra Modi, home minister Amit Shah and seven other leaders including himself but he got only one vote.
The local body polls in the state were held on October 6 and 9. In all, 79,433 candidates had contested the polls for 27,003 posts. The first phase of the polls witnessed a voter turnout of 74.37%, while a voting percentage of 73.27% (approximately) was registered in the second phase.
As per the 4pm update, the DMK is leading in 121 District Panchayat ward member seats and 201 Panchayat Union ward member seats while the AIADMK is leading in 16 Panchayat Union ward member seats out of the 1,381 seats and in three District Panchayat ward member seats out of the total 140 seats.
