Police in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Wednesday recovered a mutilated body, which is suspected to be that of a Territorial Army (TA) jawan who was allegedly killed by terrorists in August 2020. Police have decided to do DNA mapping of the body to confirm whether it is of TA soldier Shakir Manzoor Wagay, who was abducted by terrorists in August 2020 and later reported to have been killed by terrorists.
On August 2, 2020, Rifleman Shakir Manzoor of 162 TA Battalion had come home in Reshipora Shopian to celebrate Eid with his family. He was driving his car to report back on duty when he went missing.
The Rifleman was abducted, tortured and killed by terrorists from Shopian district on August 2, 2020. An official statement issued the next day of abduction said Shakir’s burnt car was found in neighboring Kulgam district. It is suspected that terrorists have abducted the soldier. The search operation is on, the statement read.
A police officer after recovering the mutilated body said that although the body is unrecognizable, yet the father of the missing TA constable says that it belongs to his son. The police have decided to conduct DNA sampling to find out whether the body is that of Shakir or not, the official said.
The mutilated body was wrapped in tarpaulin, has been recovered from a garden in Mohammadpora area of Kulgam district. Police said it was found near a BSNL tower wrapped in a blue tarpaulin and was unrecognizable.
