A woman, 21 suffering from Tuberculosis was raped last week in an Intensive Care Unit of Fortis hospital in Gurugram, police reported. An FIR has been filed at the city’s Sushant Lok police station which underlined that the woman, who is from Mahendergarh was admitted to the hospital on October 21 and was kept on Ventilator as she was facing breathing difficulties. The victim wrote a note to her father and informed him about the sexual assault on Tuesday as she regained her consciousness after six days. She used signals to share her ordeal with her father.
The victim’s father informed police that she was raped between October 21 and October 27. He said how can anyone do such a thing with a patient who is on a ventilator? The family of the victim has requested the administration that her medical check-up should be conducted in a government facility.
The victim named the accused as Vikas. Police are trying to find out whether the accused worked at the hospital.The policemen who visited the hospital to record the victim’s statement were told by doctors that she was not in a state to give a statement to the cops.
Police officer Maksood Ahmad told the media that they are probing the case. They are trying to find out if Vikas worked at the hospital. He said the woman’s parents are not aware of it and they would only get clarity once they record the victim’s statement. They are probing the CCTV footage from the hospital for clues, he added.
A Fortis Hospital spokesperson said, six days after admission, the patient alleged that she has been violated on the day of admission. Post her complaint, they immediately informed the police. The hospital has a zero-tolerance policy in such situations and are extending full cooperation and support including entire CCTV footage to the police.
The latest incident came weeks after the rape, murder and dead of night cremation of a Dalit woman in Hathras that triggered shock and widespread outrage. Rape incidents did not stop after this, there had been more cases that got attention, one in Balrampur, one in Badohi and many more where the victims were raped and killed.
