Just weeks after the death of two Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers in Purulia, the body of another BJP worker was found floating in a lake in Murshidabad district on Monday in West Bengal.
The body of 54-year-old Dharmaraj Hazra was found in Shaktipur village with his hands and feet tied with a rope, the Hindustan Times reported. According to his family, Dharma was missing since Sunday. He had left home at 4.00 pm on Sunday and did not return.
The death comes just a week after former Trinamool Congress minister Humayun Kabir joined BJP in the district. Kabir was formally inducted into BJP last Monday in the presence of BJP national general secretary and the party’s West Bengal in-charge Kailash Vijayvargiya.
Accusing Trinamool goons of killing Hazra, BJP’s district president (north) Gouri Shankar Ghosh said the ruling party’s leaders are eliminating BJP workers as they cannot resist the rise of the saffron party in Bengal.
“Hazra is a member of the BJP’s 56 Shaktipur Mandal Committee. He was receiving threats from Trinamool-backed goons since the panchayat elections for supporting the BJP. On Sunday they killed him and consigned his body in a lake,” Ghosh alleged.
BJP national president Amit Shah tweeted: “TMC shames humanity, yet again. Another BJP karyakarta killed in the most barbaric manner. In Mamata’s regime, West Bengal has become an epitome of violence & brutality. Entire BJP stands firmly with Dhormo Hazra’s family in this hour of grief.”
Trinamool MLA from Shaktipur, Rabiul Alam Chowdhury said “with certainty” that “no workers of our party are associated with it”.
The incident comes a month after bodies of Trilochan Mahato and Dulal Kumar were found in two villages of Purulia on May 31 and June 2. While Mahato’s body was hanging from a tree, that of Kumar was hanging from a high tension electric pole.
