Yami Gautam on her birthday recalled how she landed her debut film Vicky Donor with Aysuhmann Khurana. Shoojit Sircar directorial Vicky Donor was an unconventional choice to debut as the film dealt with infertility and sperm donation.
At the India Today Conclave South 2018, Yami had spoken about how she bagged Vicky Donor. She had said it was a phase when she was auditioning in full swing. At that point of time, she also had the opportunity of a very conventional launch. she was absolutely on her own; every work that she was doing was her stepping stone. There was nobody there to back her, she added.

She also talked about how her parents reacted to her taking up a film on sperm donation, which still remains a cultural taboo in India. She had said when she revealed the storyline of the film to her parents, their reaction was very positive. When she auditioned for Vicky Donor, she asked the casting director what the film was about, the casting director just smiled and said nothing. It was only then she got the film, she had found out. She had to tell her parents. Her father asked her what the film is about, and she just handed the script to him. When her parents read it, they said this is so cool, she added.
Vicky Donor turned out to be a runway success at the box office. Bala was her second hit film in collaboration with Ayushmann Khurana. Yami has since starred in a number of successful films including Uri: The Surgical Strike, Badlapur and Kaabil. She was recently seen in the Netflix film Ginny Weds Sunny co-starring Vikrant Massey.
The Vicky Donor actress is currently shooting for Bhoot Police in Dharamshala which also stars Saif Ali Khan, Jacqueline Fernandez and Arjun Kapoor in key roles.
