After Mumbai-PoK remark, Kangana Ranaut gets Y plus category security

Less than a week after comparing Mumbai to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and inviting the Shiv Sena’s anger, actor Kangana Ranaut will be given Y plus category security by the Central government following a renewed threat to her after she spoke of Bollywood’s drug use in the aftermath of actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death. Y plus is the third highest level of security in India.

Ranaut, who is now in her native Himachal Pradesh, had ended up angering the Shiv Sena over the handling of the Rajput case. She had sharply criticised the Shiv Sena and in that vein added she said Mumbai felt like PoK. She accused Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut of threatening her. Her comments escalated a fresh row and Shiv Sena leaders demanded an apology from her.

Raut and Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh (NCP) had said she should not return to Mumbai if she didn’t feel safe in the city. Some Shiv Sena MLAs said she should be arrested for sedition while others slapped Kangana’s picture with their footwear.

On Monday, the actor thanked Home Minister Amit Shah after the decision to provide her security was reported. She said a patriotic daughter of India has been protected by the decision.

An NDTV report quoted unnamed Home Ministry officials as saying the actor will get 11 armed policemen including commandos and a personal security officer 24X7.

Ranaut has taken on Bollywood biggies over the last couple of years over nepotism and the existence of cliques surrounding a few stars and studios.

Earlier, Kangana’s father had requested the Himachal government for security and had said there was a threat to her life since she had been speaking openly against Mumbai police, Shiv Sena leaders and Bollywood bigwigs.

Kangana Ranaut also put out a video message saying she will travel to Mumbai from Manali on September 9.
