BSP to contest 2022 Assembly polls in UP solo, says Mayawati

The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Chief Mayawati on Friday announced that her party will contest next Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand on its own. She said her party will not forge any alliance for the upcoming polls and will contest solo in all Assembly constituencies with full preparations and force. The announcement was made on the occasion of her birthday.

She asserted that just like 2007, the party will form the government on its own. The four time former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh said she never compromised with her principles to gain power. All our party workers must unitedly start preparing for upcoming Assembly elections, she added.

The BSP could not win even a single seat in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. The party clinched 19 seats in the 2017 UP assembly polls and 10 in the 2019 Lok Sabha election, when it fought in an alliance with the Samajwadi Party. It parted ways with the SP soon after the results were declared.

The BSP supremo further promised that free Covid-19 vaccines will be distributed to all if the party comes to power in Uttar Pradesh. Mayawati welcomed the government’s decision to start Covid-19 vaccination drive scheduled to commence from January 16. She requested the central and state governments to provide the vaccine free of cost to every citizen.

Commenting on the ongoing farmers protest, the BSP chief said the party has urged the central government to consider farmers’ interest and accept all the demands of farmers.
