Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain on Monday said the Covid-19 infection has already crossed its peak in Delhi so that there will be no need of another lockdown in the city. He said wearing masks and following Covid-19 rules will be more beneficial than reimposing the lockdown.
The Health Minister said strict action will be taken against the people who are not wearing masks and not following Covid-19 protocols properly in Delhi. He said fine worth Rs 45 crore has been imposed on such people who are not following Coronavirus guidelines in the past few days.
Home Minister Amit Shah had held a meeting on Sunday to devise a strategy to contain the spread of the virus in Delhi. The meeting was attended by Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan, Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain and senior officers of the Central government. In the meeting, Shah said strict action needs to be taken in the city as the Covid-19 cases are increasing daily.
In the meeting, the Union home minister announced the decision to provide hundreds of more intensive care unit (ICU) beds for Covid-19 patients in Delhi. He said testing for coronavirus in the city will be doubled and doctors from the Central paramilitary forces will be sent to the city in large numbers.
In order to control the Covid-19 situation, Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla is to hold a meeting on Monday with Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan and the Delhi chief secretary to rework the containment strategy in Delhi.
On Sunday, Delhi recorded 3,235 new cases of coronavirus, which is the lowest since October 26 when 2,832 cases were seen. Now, India’s total Covid-19 cases have surged to 88,45,127.
