SpaceX CEO and Tesla chief Elon Musk has revealed that his startup Neuralink has implanted a wireless chip into a monkey’s brain allowing him to play video games with the help of his mind. Musk said that monkey looks happy and that US regulatory requirements are met by the startup.
Musk informed about the development during a Q&A session on Clubhouse application. He said Neuralink has now moved beyond its experimentation on pigs and onto monkeys. He said they have already got a money with a wireless implant in their skull enabling him to play video games using his mind. He says the monkey looks totally happy and not weird at all. He added that neural implant is not even visible. He said one of the things that his startup is trying to find out is if they can have the monkeys playing mind pong with each other as that would be pretty cool.
Musk said that an inspector at US Department of Agriculture (USDA) has said that the facilities available at Neuralink are one of the nicest monkey facilities they have seen.
Musk founded the the brain-machine interface startup in the year 2016. One of Neuralink’s future plans is to implant chips into human brains to provide a high-bandwidth link between humans and computers. The company is also exploring the possibility of using wireless chips to treat brain disorders and diseases.
Musk had said that a variety of wild things can be done including saving state in the brain. He said in case of death the state could be returned in the form of another human body or a robot body. He said one could decide if they wanted to be a robot or a person or whatever.
Neuralink had release a video last year demonstrating its work on a pig named Gertrude.
