Indian cricket team on Wednesday defeated Australia in their second warm-up match ahead of T20 World Cup 2021. Rohit Sharma-led team India thrashed Australia by 9 wickets with more than 2 overs remaining.
After playing the first warm-up match against England, Indian captain Virat Kohli along with pace masters Jasprit Bumrah and Md Shami were given rest for the match against Australia. Rohit Sharma, who was given rest in the previous match, was captain in the absence of Virat Kohli.
Australia won the toss and opted to bat first and started very poor against India. Within three overs of the innings their three wickets were down at just 11 runs but former Aussie captain Steve Smith kept on one end and scored a very crucial fifty (57) to help his team to reach a respectable total, while Glenn Maxwell (37) and Marcus Stoinis (41) also played vital knocks for their team.
From India, off-spinner Ravi Ashwin and leggie Rahul Chahar, impressed with their bowls and took 2 & 1 wickets, respectively. While the attention of the show was the bowling of Virat Kohli, who came to bowl two overs in the match and gave just 12 runs from his quota.
From bowling to batting dominated the whole match, Indian openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul started smashing from ball one and chased down the target in 17.5 overs. Rahul was the only player who got out on 39, while Rohit retired himself at 60 runs and invited Hardik Pandya to finish the match, who hit the winning six to seal the victory for India.
Earlier on Monday, India had defeated England in their first warm-up match, chasing the target of 189 runs in just 19 overs. KL Rahul and Ishan Kishan stole the show with their supreme batting.
