Thakur said Bhat was very active in the party and recently his work was also appreciated in the BJP youth convention held in Srinagar.
Recently, the government had appointed Dineshwar Sharma as interlocutor on October 23, for initiating dialogue with the stakeholders in Kashmir to find a solution to 30 -year-old Kashmir insurgency.
Shopian is strategically located as it provides easy access to Doda, Kishtawar and Poonch area of Jammu.
Shopian has also been the traditional bastion of the PDP but after it forged an alliance with BJP, it left its supporters disillusioned, with many turning towards separatists while youths are said to be drifting to militancy.
Reportedly, more than 37 people have left their home in Shopian to join militancy. In August 2017, three militants including Wani’s successor’s were killed in a gunfight in Shopian.
