APN Special Report finds out why NDMC lost in maintaining its rank in 2017 ranking
The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has slipped three levels from 4th to 7th in the cleanliness survey 2017 aka Swachh Survekshan 2017. In 2016, it was ranked fourth. The municipal body looks after Lutyens’ Delhi.
APN carried Special Report on the state of the cleanliness in the most important habitable area of the country where the President, Prime Minister, Cabinet Ministers and top bureaucrats reside. It also hosts Embassies, High Commissions representing different countries and bureaus of world bodies, including United Nations, World Bank etc.
The question was raised that despite Swachh Bharat Abhiyan launched by Prime Minister on October 2, 2014, why has NDMC brought shame to the nation? NDMC officials, in their defence, say that the earlier ranking was among 73 cities while 2017 survey was conducted in 434 cities across the nation.
APN reporter Yogesh Som Kunwar reported from Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Marg in the Lutyens’ Delhi and highlighted the problems faced by the residents. He spoke to a few residents, who complained about the lack of civic amenities and the carelessness of the authorities concerned.
